アメリカで昼間に「火球」が現れ、数多くの人に目撃され、動画でも撮影された。

広範囲で目撃情報

その「火球」が目撃されたのは6月24日の午後1時前（現地時間）、場所はジョージア州北部とされている。

昼間だったため、「火球」は夜に比べて眩しく輝くことはなかったが、白い航跡を残しながら、ほぼ垂直（見る場所によって異なる）に地面に落下していく様子が映っていた。

またジョージア州北部だけでなく、隣接するノースカロライナ州やサウスカロライナ州の一部の住民も、この様子を目撃したと報告しているという。

隕石が屋根や床まで貫通

しかも落下後、ジョージア州のアトランタ都市圏の住宅街でも爆発音が鳴り響き、隕石が住宅に落下したそうだ。

アトランタ南東の郊外、ヘンリー郡の緊急管理責任者のライアン・モリソン氏は、次のように述べている。

「隕石は屋根を貫通し、ラミネート・フローリングを突き破って、コンクリートまで到達しました」

また国立気象局によれば、「火球」はレーダーでは捉えられず、衛星データで煙の跡を捉えることができたという。

ただ国立気象局は、隕石などに対応しておらず、宇宙ゴミや小惑星はNASAの管轄になっているそうだ。（了）
